The Wattleseed Collective

The Collective produces sustainable wild-harvested, lightly roasted and coarse ground wattleseed (Acacia colei), produced by First Nations rangers and communities looking after culture and Country in the Kimberley region of Western Australia.

Profits from this product support the Wattleseed Collective in establishing as a viable social enterprise, creating sustainable and meaningful economic opportunities, nurturing traditions, making healthy native foods accessible in communities, and supporting people in being on, and looking after Country.

As a collaborative community-led start-up, the Wattleseed Collective is facilitated by Environs Kimberley. Collaborators include: Nyamgumarta Rangers (facilitated by Yamtji Marlpa Aboriginal Corporation), Karajarri Rangers (facilitated by Karajarri Traditional Lands Association), Bardi Jawi and Nyul Nyul Rangers (facilitated by the Kimberley Land Council), Yawuru Country Managers (facilitated by Nyamba Buru Yawuru), Yiriman Women Bush Knowledge Enterprises (facilitated by Kimberley Aboriginal Law and Culture Centre), Nyamba Buru Yawuru and North Regional TAFE’s sustainable employment program, and the Society for Kimberley Indigenous Plants and Animals (SKIPA).

The Collective’s industry partners are Native Foodways and Tucker Bush. The Collective is an initiative of the Environs Kimberley and its establishment as a viable social enterprise is receiving support from Lotterywest.

Through the development of the Wattleseed Collective the Environs Kimberley Sustainable Communities team is providing technical and logistical support to enable people to collaboratively collect and prepare quality wattleseed product, and know that in fulfilling orders, their efforts will be remunerated.
